Job Description

Position Title:  Full Stack Developer

Open Period:   23 July 2024 – 7 August 2024

Position Description:  The Full Stack Developer is responsible for designing and implementing robust, scalable, and secure IT solutions to support RIMES’ disaster risk management and early warning systems. This role requires a deep understanding of architectural principles, design patterns, and integration techniques, along with the ability to analyze complex technical requirements and develop innovative solutions. The Solution Architect will be involved in all phases of the project lifecycle, from initial analysis and design through to implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement. 

Contract Type: Project staff

Duty station: RIMES Regional Facility, Tamil Nadu Office, Tamil Nadu, India.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge:           

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • In-depth understanding of web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React or Angular for front-end development.
  • Proficiency in back-end technologies such as Node.js, Python, Ruby, or Java, and experience with database management systems like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB
Experience: 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in full-stack web development.
  • Proven experience in developing and deploying web applications in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with version control systems, preferably Git.
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating third-party APIs and services

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Proficiency in using development tools such as Visual Studio Code, WebStorm, or similar IDEs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and practices.

  • Creative thinker with the ability to propose innovative solutions to technical challenges.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Web Application Development:

  • Plan, design, develop, test, and validate new web applications, solutions, and processes to meet user needs and requirements effectively and efficiently.
  • Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of web applications.

Front-End Development:

  • Design and implement user interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and front-end frameworks like React or Angular.
  • Ensure cross-browser compatibility and responsiveness of web applications.

Back-End Development:

  • Develop server-side logic, define and maintain databases, and ensure high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front-end.
  •  Integrate real-time forecast data and other modules into applications.

Deployment and Maintenance:

  • Deploy applications to cloud environments.
  • Monitor and maintain applications to ensure their smooth operation and resolve any issues that arise.

Database Management:

  • Design, implement, and maintain database schemas.
  • Perform database optimization and tuning to ensure efficient data retrieval and storage.

Others:

  • Create and maintain technical documentation for web applications, including architecture diagrams, API documentation, and user guides.
  • Propose and implement improvements to existing applications and development processes.
  • Any other relevant work assigned by Head of Department Hydrology


Immediate Supervisor: The staff shall report to the Head of Department of Hydrology and work closely with the Technical Team and Project Team.

 

Duration: The position is offered for a duration of 1 year. The contract may be extended based on performance, funding availability, and project requirements.

Probationary period:The probationary period for this position is 6 months. The staff's performance and fit for the role will be evaluated. Successful completion of the probationary period will be determined based on demonstrated competence in executing the major duties and responsibilities, as well as adherence to RIMES policies and professional conduct standards. If the staff does not pass the probationary period due to insufficient competence, misconduct, or severe breaches of policy, immediate termination without notice may be enforced as per RIMES’s disciplinary procedures. The evaluation during the probationary period will include regular feedback sessions, performance reviews, and assessments of the staff's ability to integrate with the team and meet the expectations of the role.

Background:  The Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES) is an international and intergovernmental institution, owned and managed by its Member States, for the generation and application of early warning information. RIMES evolved from the efforts of countries in Africa and Asia, in the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, to establish a regional early warning system within a multi-hazard framework for the generation and communication of early warning information, and capacity building for preparedness and response to trans-boundary hazards. RIMES was established on 30 April 2009, and was registered with the United Nations on 1 July 2009. RIMES operates from its regional early warning center located at the campus of the Asian Institute of Technology in Pathumthani.
