Analyzing medical records
Review patient records, doctor's notes, and other patient information to identify missing information, documentation deficiencies, and potential quality of care issues
Assigning codes
Convert diagnoses, treatments, and procedures into universal medical codes, and ensure the codes are correct and sequenced appropriately
Complying with regulations
Ensure that codes meet federal regulations and insurance standards, and adhere to medical coding guidelines and policies
Collaborating with others
Work with physicians, nurses, billers, and auditors to clarify diagnoses or procedures, and ensure coded data is integrated into the billing process
