Chaitanya is a non profit trust registered in 1993 has been working towards Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equity by promoting women owned and governed institutions that enable access to and control over resources.

Chaitanya is one of the pioneers of the SHG movement in the state with vast field experience in promotion of local community based institutions of women. Chaitanya facilitate the formation of the first federation - Gramin  Mahila  Swayamsiddha Sangha of self help group in Maharashtra in 1991 to economically empower women by creating a habit of savings and enabling access to credit and insurance .It is one of the pioneers of community based microfinance institutions in the country almost all the 45 SHG federation with 1.15 lakh membership across 18 districts of Maharashtra  and Madhya Pradesh are financially reliant and sustainable with Sarathi Mahasang a Confederation of federations ensuring self governance and regulation.

Strong partnerships with government, financial institutions corporate entities as well as academic institutions has helped Chaitanya address the self identified needs of the members with a strong membership base and support of partner institutions Chaitanya is strongly committed towards making a difference in the lives of women to achieve gender equity.
