Industry is grappling with the issue of skilled manpower deficit. 90% of the jobs in the market need skills and limited knowledge where as 90% of the students graduating have the knowledge but no skills. The gap between the supply and the demand of skilled manpower is widening with every passing day which needs to be addressed.
Apprenticeships is a tested model for creating manpower as per the requirement of the industry. However, India has never crossed 3 lac apprentices mark ever since the Apprentices ACT was written in 1961. Countries like China has 20 million, Japan has 10 million & Germany has 3 million apprentices. In spite of having rich demographic dividend India has not harness the potential of apprenticeships completely.
NETAP is a program to address the issue of employability through apprenticeships. It is an innovation which exists at the cusp of Education, Employment & Employability (3Es). It is offered through TeamLease Skills University in public private partnership between Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), AICTE Ministry of Human Resources , CII & NSDE. Running successfully for 2 years, trainees have been placed for on the job training program with over 200 employers in almost every function across industry making people job ready.
A roundtable is being organized for the HR Leaders to deliberate the potential and benefits of apprenticeships under NETAP, and its impact on the industry and society.
